Arty Summer – London

Summer, a season when life goes smoother and people can enjoy free time and vacations.

Summer, a time to go somewhere else, physically or mentally.

Art and culture are a means of escape, providing a one-way ticket to discovery and an opportunity to deeply nourish our spirit and inner selves.

This summer, ArtWe invites you to embark on a remote journey into the universe of our local artists. It’s a little trip, geographically speaking, but a long way away in terms of creativity.

This selection brings together 9 works by London artists that cost from £250 to £1,550.

Contemporary art made accessible.

Henriette Busch : Abstract Papers

Neighborhood: Hertfordshire

Henriette’s works on paper are a great representation of Post-Abstract Expressionism. Reminiscent of De Kooning or Rothko’s art in the 1950’s, the color mix and heavy brush strokes magically increase the expressive power of the entire piece.

Matthew Theobald : Italian Landscapes

Neighborhood: Haringey

Matthew currently exhibits  landscape paintings on ArtWe ; they’re recognizable from among the rest due to their one-of-a-kind artistic style. His representation of Mount Vesuvius, with its obtuse angles and contrasting color, brings a unique ambiance to this well-known scenery; something you can’t capture with photographs.

Gordon Render : Witness of Our Time

Neighborhood: Wandsworth

Gordon was already part of our Spring Selection, so it’s a great honor to have him here again with his new works. Like many of us, Gordon has gone through the Covid-19 pandemic living in a big city, in his case, London. As an artist, he became inspired by this unusual time in history and eventually delivered several pieces related to the theme. In these two artworks, he shares his reaction to the lockdown by expressing its harsh reality, but always including his characteristic optimism.

His art serves as a beacon of hope.

Jarek Filipowicz : Freedom in Colors

Neighborhood: South London

Jarek is a prolific artist who works in a wide range of artistic styles, from pure abstraction to expressionist landscape. Reminiscent of artists such as Van Gogh or Kandinsky, Jarek’s art stands apart. When looking at a Jarek Filipowicz painting, one easily falls into a different world made of movement and total freedom.

Ellie Traquair : Expressionist Portraits

Neighborhood: Lewisham

Ellie currently exhibits several expressionist portraits on ArtWe, to our great delight. By combining warm and muted hues with powerful bursts of color, Ellie’s canvases radiate expressive stories that compel the viewer to engage.

Her art makes an immediate impact; within a half a second the viewer experiences an intense shot of emotion. Between Jimi Hendrix’s sad eyes and her beautiful auto-portrait in decomposition — the pieces capture a shared bluesy feeling common to many of us.

This artist is a magnificent find for the ArtWe team.
